The objective is to provide an easy to use tool for analyzing and reporting typical ILM issues such as storage cost, usage, forecasts, utilization, archiving, and compliance to information policies or legislation.
The basis for ILMAS is data collected from clients IT infrastructure(s) using software crawlers. This scanning process can be executed by clients themselves, their partners or by Platon. The data is delivered to Platon and loaded into ILMAS, and thereby made available for clients to immediately analyze and report. The ILMAS solution is unique as it contains the full history of the scanned meta data, allowing users to analyze by completely new dimensions.
What do we scan:
- Any file visible in windows, Unix and Linux environment
- SharePoint, Exchange, Notes and databases are scanned only in total sizes (as one or more database file)
- For storage capacity analysis (Storage Operations) , scanning virtual environments will only help for analyzing file types, rather than capacity.
- Mainframe, AS400 and alike are not scanned.
- We can customize /develop scanning to include above, if/when relevant
Key issues in ILM that ILMAS addresses are:
- Lacking facts and forecasts to manage the information growth
- Lacking facts to support decisions on storage technology and strategy on archiving and backup
- The difficulty to communicate the issues around storage (and budget) needs, to management and the organization
- The difficulty in tracking and ensuring compliance to information policies and legislation
